How To Make a Beaded Fringe Necklace

How To Make a Beaded Fringe Necklace

The beaded fringe necklace comprises two strands with one bead at its focal point. What makes it interesting are the fringes attached to the bead. Look fashionable while wearing a beaded fringe necklace on Bohemian tops. This necklace does not look simple to make at face value, but it can be made with a little jewelry making skill. Check out the procedures below and give making a beaded fringe necklace a try.

Starting step: stringing and beading. Prepare two 35 inch cords as beading wires. Let them hold together for twining. Put three filler beads on the two strings. Place them at the center.

String beads on one side. Start stringing beads on one side of the filler beads. Place seed beads and filler beads on each of the two wires separately. After filling the strings with alternating beads of approximately two inches, place another filler bead on both wires.

String beads on the other side. Repeat step two, this time on the other side of the filler beads placed on the strings in step one.

Keep adding seed beads and filler beads on both sides. Continue adding seed beads and filler beads on either side of the original filler beads until you cover the entire length but six inches of the strings from one end to another.

Add another series of seed beads and filler beads. String beads on both ends of the beading wires. Separate the wires and place six filler beads on each wire four wires. Put one filler bead and six seed beads again. Add another seed bead and a bicone crystal bead each to both ends of the wires.

Add even more beads. Add six seed beads on to separate wires, and then add a spacer bead on to non separate wires. Follow this sequence in adding the additional beads: furnace bead, spacer bead, filler bead, special focal bead and another spacer bead.

Make the fringe bottom of the necklace. To make this, add seed beads to each of the four strings separately. Alternately put filler and spacer beads on each of the strands. Fill the four wires with beads until only a couple of inches are remaining from the whole of the wire. Use a crimp bead, two small seed beads, a small filler bead and another seed bead on to each remaining wire space.

Finish the fringe necklace. Tie a knot around the final seed bead and follow through with two seed beads, the crimp bead and one last seed bead. Pull the wires through the fringe bead. Wrinkle the crimp beads with crimp pliers. Remove excess edges of the beading wire to finish up the beaded fringe necklace. This necklace does not have a lock because it can be worn by just slipping through the head.

How to Care for Your Fine Jewelry

How to Care for Your Fine Jewelry

Training Your Fine Jewelry:

The first thing you should do is to give your fine jewelry its own little space for when it is not being worn and train it to stay there. Jewelry items do not live or party well together. Much of the damage, other than wear, that is done to jewelry happens in jewelry boxes. Stones scratch each other and the metals around them. Chains get caught in tangles that almost always cause some sort of damage.

The best way to clean your fine jewelry is with a soft used toothbrush and a mild dish detergent. If the pieces are very dirty, you can soak them in detergent and water. Do not use harsh cleaners such as chlorine bleach or ammonia. It is not advisable to use toothpaste either. Many contain a mild abrasive, which will remove some metal and cause a dull finish. Any competent jeweler can polish items on occasion, but this process also removes small amounts of metal and so should be used sparingly.

Checking Prongs Stones:

If the stone moves in the setting, put it in some kind of small bag or container and take it to your nearest qualified jeweler. The small bag prevents loss of the stone should it fall out. Loose stones are also more easily chipped or broken. Another good indicator of a loose prong is if the piece gets caught in clothing or hair by a prong.

Checking for Wear and Tear:

Over time, gold and silver will wear down. This can happen over months or years. This can be a problem for people who do certain kinds of work. The solution to this type of problem is the use of heavier metal in the prongs, the use of platinum for the setting or the use of a bezel setting to secure the stone. Prongs should be checked occasionally and if thin they should be replaced. The bands on rings can also become quite thin and eventually need replacing. The thinner the band to begin with the faster this will happen.

If you give your jewelry a little care and check it periodically for wear and overall condition, it will give you many years to a lifetime of joy. A competent jeweler can recondition most pieces so long as the damage hasnt been allowed to go too far.

How To Borrow Money Quick

How To Borrow Money Quick

There are times when an emergency or opportunity emerges where you need cash in a hurry but your own available finances are inadequate. You will then need to borrow money in a hurry. Fortunately, there are several ways in doing this.

Here are several suggestions for borrowing money quickly:

Get a cash advance from your credit card. This technique has the convenience of an ATM with the interest rate of a credit card. Simply insert your credit card into an appropriate ATM then type in the amount needed. Cash advances have a withdrawal limit and hefty interest rates that depends on your credit card company.

Borrow from a friend. One of your close friends or relatives can lend you the money you want with no interest rate, by treating it as a favor. If your friend doesnt have the amount of cash you need, ask several more of them. This type of loan may have an indefinite time period to pay back, based on how close you are to your friends. You may not expect to borrow more until you have paid off the initial loan. Also, if you are notorious for not paying back your loans, expect your remaining friends to form excuses not to lend you money. Of course, you can then ask a sibling or friend to borrow in your behalf.

Pawn off a valuable. Your jewelry, appliances and electronic gadgets may fetch you an amount based on the pawnbrokers estimated value of the collateral. Interest rates usually start at 3 per cent. If you arent able to pay back your loan, the pawnshop will auction off your item in order to recoup their losses.

Ask your boss for an advance. If you are a good employee and in good relations with your boss, he will only be too happy to give your paycheck early without penalty fees or interest. This loan is not to be abused frequently or it will create a tense working environment.

Ask for a pay day loan. Whether based locally or online, payday loans are short term borrowings that cover expenses until the next payday. Visit local stores that offer payday loans or search online.

Apply for a bank loan. Some banks will promptly lend you money meant for emergencies. Ask your bank what loans they have you can obtain within a day and the requirements needed for it. Make sure you are in good standing with your bank to get a positive response.

Request for an extension. The person or business you need the money for may grant you an extended period to pay your bill if you request it.

Some of these options have no interests and can be accomplished in mere minutes, while others impose stiff fees and take several hours to process. Exhaust your friendly choices first before resorting to the unfriendly variety, which may create an even larger financial problem in your near future. And dont forget the power of friendship: some will help you now while your financial worries are minimal rather than later when you inevitably approach them with a more dire debt situation.

Green tanzanite is driving me fucking crazy

Green tanzanite is driving me fucking crazy

jump to contentmy subreddits

limit my search to /r/jewelryuse the following search parameters to narrow your results:see the search faq for details. After many hours of research, I finding what people refer to as green tanzanite is actually a variation of zoisite that has the same chemical makeup of blue tanzanite but a different color because of the minerals or something like that I don really care about the science. Green zoisite also something that jewelry stores around here haven heard of. I just talked to a jeweler and he said he never heard of it and that I shouldn bother with tanzanite anyway because it will break a number of times over the years. He then said I have green sapphire and tzaverite garnet. So, should I give up on green tanzanite/zoisite? I even talked to the GIA, and they said it would be difficult to find and didn know much about it. Obviously I like to get my girlfriend something she wants to wear forever. And if I should give up on this, what other types of gemstones should I look for and, for bonus points, how much should I expect to pay?

I not sure you should give up In some of my recent time wasting expeditions, I know I seen some iirc, tanzanite is a greenish color until it is heated for that rich blue purple. Tanzanite ultimately only really refers to zoisite from tanzania that heats to a neat purply color. That said for an engagement stone, you probably do want to go with a tougher stone. It going to get knocked around a bit and rubbed, and tanzanite is not nearly as durable as, say, sapphire. I think for rich color green, tsavorite is probably going to be the best option though still not as tough as sapphire for an everyday stone. It just hard to find a green sapphire that has the same bright/pretty color. Keep in mind too that going to jewelry stores is a mixed bag when it comes to colored stones. Their bread and butter is diamonds and the most well known colored stones blue sapphire, ruby, emerald, dark garnets. They often are pretty clueless about a lot of other stuff I had one jeweler look at me like I was crazy when I asked about zircon, saying WE DONT CARRY FAKE STONES. Idiot.

Geek jewelry yields to techno fashion

Geek jewelry yields to techno fashion

During a personal hiatus from jewelry making, I took to soldering components on integrated circuit boards, a skill also known as populating the boards. I realized then that electronic components could constitute an interesting group of materials from which to fashion jewelry, as the solders glittered with silver when they were done right.

Capacitors, resistors, diodes, regulators, LEDs, transistors, and circuit boards constitute the collection of components that lend themselves to jewelry. It has been known around university electronics labs that students, especially the ladies, would depart from their hands on digital drudgery to design something creative to wear. Thus was born what was soon to be called geek jewelry.

Populated circuit boards that failed in function could function as form for a pendant when attached to earwires or a neck chain with a bale. Such simplistic designs announced the designer as a geek getting a creative break from graduate studies. The pejorative term must have inspired more inspired designs.

Those designers soon to be expert electronic engineers put some creativity into their designs by clustering or arraying the components in more intricate arrangements. This served to utilize the steely modern look of the electronic components without adding a geeky component to the lab born jewelry designs.

It was when jewelry designers by trade noticed the high tech appeal of electronic components that they began to incorporate them into their jewelry couture. Recognizing the inherent appeal of such designs to current day conscious and technically oriented clientele, famous names, such as Italian designer Paola Mirai, fashioned recycled electronic components as features in their creations. Techno fashion became the newly accepted nomenclature for geek jewelry.

In jewelry as in architecture, form follows function. Designers are shaking off old notions of gemstones for focus in jewelry and taking on technical forms to function as up to the minute attractors in current designs. Techno fashion jewelry no longer remains in the domain of the geeks.

First Communion Gifts Don

First Communion Gifts Don

There are several reasons why family members and friends of the family who are invited to celebrate first holy communion may not be comfortable buying religious gifts.

There are many gift ideas, however, that acknowledge the importance of the occasion without being religious in nature.

Money as a First Communion GiftMoney may not seem like a personal gift for first holy communion but it is one of the easiest and most appreciated gifts to give. Money gifts can be in the form of cash in a card, a gift card to the childs favorite store, a saving bond or a contribution to the childs college fund.

Most stores sell first holy communion cards or money holders to hold the money gift. In fact, a card and well wishes may be a sufficient gift for the child of a family friend. For those who prefer not to give money gifts, there are other first communion gift options.

First Communion Gifts of JewelryFriends of the family or family members who are not comfortable buying religious gifts can choose from several jewelry options. Sterling silver stamped with .925 is generally a better choice for children as it is sturdier than gold. Silver is also a more affordable choice.

Communion gifts for boys can include a tie tack, tie bar or bracelet. Tie tacks and tie bars can be gifts of jewelry that last a lifetime as one size fits all. Bracelets for boys should be in a link or thick rope bracelet style, similar to mens styles. Keep in mind boys will wear a shorter bracelet than a full grown man so either buy a childs size bracelet or expect the gift to be put away until later.

For girls, lockets or pearls are great ways to acknowledge the importance of the occasion while choosing a non religious gift. While a strand of saltwater pearls may be much too expensive for a gift for a second grader, freshwater pearls can be a nice choice.

Other communion gifts for girls include pearl stud earrings, pearl bracelets or a single pearl pendant. Lockets come in many different sizes, styles and price points, and children love the thought of the locket having a secret picture inside.

Give Personal First Communion GiftsOne gift for boys that fits well with first holy communion is the gift of a leather wallet. Second graders have learned about money in school and many people choose to give money as first communion gifts. The gift of a wallet can be a way to acknowledge the boy is old enough to begin making important choices for himself, just as he chooses to receive the body of Christ when receiving first holy communion

A watch is an age appropriate first communion gift suitable for boys and girls. Second graders are at an age where they begin to take better care of their possessions and can understand the value of a nice watch. Whether it is chosen for every day wear or dress up occasions, a watch can make a child feel more grown up and special. These feelings fit well with the importance of a first holy communion.

Other Meaningful Communion GiftsWhile engraved picture frames and engraved wooden boxes often include first holy communion messages, it is possible to have plain frames and wooden boxes engraved with the childs name or initials. These gifts are suitable for boys and girls. Take the time to choose a charity that reflects the childs interests and write a brief message in the card to explain the selection. Pay to plant a tree in the childs name or ask the parents if it is okay to give a white blooming azalea bush or dogwood tree to plant in the familys yard. Each year the bush or tree will bloom around Easter time, reminding the child of his or her first holy communion and the gift giver.

Although first holy communion is a religious celebration, there are many gift options for those who are uncomfortable selecting a religious gift.

Non religious first communion gift options can be meaningful and special. Jewelry, watches, engraved picture frames and wooden boxes are communion gifts for girls and boys. Wallets can be a nice gift for boys and girls may like lockets. Money gifts, charitable giving, and plants and trees can acknowledge the day without being overtly religious gifts.

ExpoartesaniasColombia

Expoartesanias 2010 Colombia

Imagine a place where in one vast complex you can shop for hand woven goods from the Colombian Pacific of the Choco, help generate an income for the jewelry makers of troubled Mompox, so threatened by flooding, or spy out Colombias next hottest fashion designer. Look no further than the Expoartesanias exhibition in Bogotas Corferias conference centre. This year the event runs from December 7 to 20 and promises to be a successful event despite economic woes and personal belt tightening. In 2009 Expoartesanias defied the odds and pulled in an estimated 88,000 visitors and this year organisers are hoping for more.

Whats On Display at Expoartesanias? In short, anything and everything is on display here, and everything is for sale. Lost for ideas for that perfect Christmas present, youre advised to hot foot it down here and have a nose around.

With 850 artisans from 32 of Colombias departments and 14 Asian and other Latin American countries there is a great deal on display and as one onlooker commented: This is an opportunity not only for these artists to sell to a domestic and international market, but it can help to export our culture.

Colombian Culture on DisplayPerhaps you are only in town on business or just stopping through, head to the Pavilion given over and dedicated to wares produced by the Afro Colombian and Indigenous communities and you will be transported to far off and exotic territories of lesser known parts of Colombia. Interact with people from Guainia and Vichada or haggle with the expert salespeople of the Guajira.

Christmas Gift IdeasVery often the vendors here are keen to offload their fine products here during Expoartesanias and so you can always ask, albeit respectfully, for a discount. Why not look for some painstakingly created filigree silver jewelry from Mompox or Wayuu mochilas from the Guajira. If these are not your scene, perhaps head to the international pavilion to check out what is on offer from the cubicles belonging to salesmen from Bolivia, Mexico, Peru or Malaysia.

The Expoartesanias Business FairGiving Colombian artesans and outlet to present and pitch their ideas and products to the world, the Business Fair will help locals promote their goods to buys from 26 different countries including many from Europe and the Americas.

Entry Costs to Expoartesanias and Opening TimesGeneral entry costs 13,000 Colombian Pesos or roughly US$7 per person and the conference centre is open daily from December 7th to 20th from 10am to 8pm.

Elvis Presley Collectibles of the s

Elvis Presley Collectibles of the 1950s

When Colonel Tom Parker became Elvis manager, he began to look for ways to get his sole client further into the public eye. In addition to advertising and promotional appearances, the Colonel signed a deal to merchandise a line of Elvis Presley collectibles. Here are some of the highlights of the collectibles created in the Elvis craze of the late 1950s.

Elvis Presley LipsticksElvis Presley Enterprises was established in the summer of 1956 by Colonel Tom Parker in a deal with Hank Saperstein. Saperstein had successfully merchandised Wyatt Earp, the Lone Ranger, Lassie, and other icons of American pop culture. The Colonel and Saperstein approved 18 licensees, who produced about 30 products. Among them were Elvis Presley Lipsticks, which Saperstein claimed would be so popular they would walk off the counter.

Shades included Hound Dog Orange, Heartbreak Pink, Cruel Red, Tender Pink, Tutti Frutti Red, and Love ya Fuschia. Each lipstick came attached to a card with a picture of Elvis and the tag line, Keep me always on your lips. The lipsticks are a popular collectible today, partly because the colors were named after Elvis songs. A tube attached to the original card is quite valuable, while the lipstick chart that lists all the colors is extremely rare.

Elvis Presley SneakersAfter the Saperstein deal, fans could literally dress themselves from head to toe hats to shoes in Elvis Presley merchandise. Elvis Presley Enterprises licensed the Randolph Manufacturing Company to make Elvis canvas sneakers in 1956.

Two different colors were available, a green and black pair and a black and white pair. The former are the most valuable, though sneakers in both colors are rare and highly sought collectibles. The tan colored box that the sneakers came in featured a photo of Elvis on the front and the back. The photo on the front was a shot of Elvis performing, which was the famous pose used on his first album cover.

The photo on the back was a dreamy portrait, with Love Me Tender printed at the top and Elvis signature at the bottom. The box is now considered extremely rare. A pair of sneakers in the box is currently worth up to $4,300.

Elvis Presley Record PlayerTwo models of the Elvis Presley Autograph record player were produced in the fall of 1956 by RCA Victor. Both were covered with blue vinyl contrasted with a light blue gray tweed material, and both were distinguished by Elvis signature, which was stamped in gold on the top.

The more sophisticated model, which sold for $47.95, could play up to fourteen 45 rpm records automatically. Those on a budget could put down one dollar and pay one dollar per week at participating RCA dealers. A bonus was included with this model in the form of an Elvis three record EP set that featured 12 songs.

The other record player was a four speed model that cost $32.95, or 75 cents down and 75 cents per week. The less expensive model came with a two record EP set with eight songs. Both record players came with an instruction booklet titled How to Use and Enjoy Your RCA Victor Elvis Presley Automatic 45 Victrola Portable Phonograph.

Love Me Tender NecklaceSeveral pieces of jewelry were manufactured by Elvis Presley Enterprises in 1956, including a charm bracelet, a pair of earrings, a pin, and the Love Me Tender necklace. The necklace was issued to coincide with the release of Elvis first movie, though nothing about the design of the trinket relates to the film.

Available in a gold or silver finish, the heart shaped pendant bore an engraving of Elvis playing the guitar. The card to which the necklace as attached is dark blue and white and contains a printed list that names four of Elvis songs from 1956.

The necklace and card together make a nice keepsake commemorating that all important year for Elvis. The gold finish version is slightly more valuable than the silver finish to collectors today, and a necklace still attached to its card increases the value of the item by almost twice as much.

The Pink ItemsIn 1956, Elvis Presley Enterprises issued an autograph book, diary, scrapbook, photo album, and record case as a set of must have accessories for every teenage girl. All of the items were dusty pink and featured the same black line drawing of Elvis with white highlights. The collectibles are commonly referred to as the pink items. The material used to make the items was a stimulated leather called leatherette.

The drawing was based on the photo that adorned the cover of his first album, Elvis Presley. A small hound dog also graced the covers, which was a reference to Elvis biggest hit single of 1956.

The scrapbook and photo album are the largest items in the set, but the diary is extremely difficult to find, making it the most valuable collectible.

The Elvis Presley Hat and Head ScarfThe 1950s was an era of crew cuts and curly pony tails, and Elvis Presley Enterprises licensed several hats and scarves to take advantage of the fashions of the day. The head scarves, which were made of a blend of rayon and silk, featured a four color print of Elvis. The largest scarves measured 32 inches square and cost under $2. Womens kerchiefs and hankies were also available, as was a more exotic looking form of head gear the Elvis turban!

Comfortable and casual, crew hats became popular among teenage boys. Even Elvis was known to don one on occasion. Elvis Presley Enterprises sold two different styles of gabardine crew hats. Both featured titles of popular Elvis songs in the wide band around the crown. The more common style included a portrait of Elvis inside a yellow burst; the other showed a picture of Elvis clasping his hands by his face. The latter is currently higher in value, and both hats inflate in value if the original price tag is still attached. The color cards sold in packages of five for a nickel, bubble gum included. Single cards sold for a penny.

The complete set contains 66 cards, which are divided into two parts. The first set includes cards 1 46 and is referred to as the Ask Elvis Series. Each card in this part features a question for Elvis and his answer and signature on the back. Cards 47 66 depict scenes from Elvis first film, Love Me Tender, and feature details about the movie on the backs.

All of the cards are colorized black and white photographs. Counterfeit reproductions of this set of cards were produced in black and white, which makes them incredibly easy for collectors to identify.

Teddy Bear PerfumeTeen Age, Inc., came up with Elvis Presleys Teddy Bear Eau de Parfum in 1957, licensed by Elvis Presley Enterprises. The name was undoubtedly inspired by the success of Elvis hit single, Teddy Bear, as well as by the rumors that he collected teddy bears.

The tall, slender bottle with a white cap featured a photo of a smiling Elvis from the mid 1950s. The perfume came in a plain yellow box with a look that was supposed to simulate cork. There was no writing on the box. However, the photo of Elvis on the label was clearly from the 1960s. Also, the bottle shape is square, and the cap is a metallic color. The date of reissue is not known, but the reissued perfume is worth considerably less than the original.

Elvis Presley GuitarElvis was credited with starting a boom in guitar sales that reached mammoth proportions by 1957. Elvis himself generally used his guitar more as a prop than a musical instrument, but popular imagery of the era usually associated him with a guitar. That year, Elvis Presley Enterprises licensed the Emenee Music Company to manufacture several different toy guitars bearing Elvis name and likeness.

The Teddy Bear and Hound Dog models originally sold for $12 and came in both four string and six string versions. The Love Me Tender guitar was more elaborate. The two tone plastic body measured about three feet long and came in a carrying case. The Love Me Tender model, which was sold only through Sears stores and catalogs, also included a small songbook and an automatic chord player. The four string versions of all three guitars are more rare and therefore more valuable.

Dog Tag JewelryTo commemorate Elvis induction into the army, or more likely to exploit it, Elvis Presley Enterprises issued jewelry reproductions of his dog tags, complete with his proper serial number 55310761. The dog tag jewelry included two styles of bracelets, sweater holders, anklets, necklaces, and key chains. The jewelry featured a chrome finish over a brass base.

Currently, the sweater holder is the most valuable piece. Several years ago, many boxes of dog tag jewelry were uncovered, and consequently, the jewelry is not as valuable as other Elvis collectibles. The dog tags remain popular items, however, because they represent Elvis stint in the service. In 1977, reproductions were produced, which were not made of chrome over a brass base but instead were tinted gold.

TeenzinesAmong the most delightful of all magazines about Elvis Presley are the teenzines teen magazines from the mid to late 1950s. They are also among the most valuable because they cover the burgeoning days of rock n roll, an exciting period in American popular culture. This period is of interest to a variety of collectors in addition to the Elvis fan.

Diamonds Are Not Forever NILE

Diamonds Are Not Forever NILE

Bargain hunters may be tempted to take a look at Blue Nile, Inc. NILE which is down roughly 75% from last years high. After all, the company has no debt and posted third quarter profits, as opposed to many retailers which showed losses. The company actually saw sales come in near the same levels as last year, which has some bulls optimistic that stability will remain with this diamond retailer. ZachStocks readers will note previous cautionary articles on Blue Nile, and have hopefully sidestepped the carnage.

Looking more closely at the company earnings release, it is clear that trends are souring and quickly. In a press release from early November, management stated that the holiday season would be challenging. October sales were down 20% from last year, and that doesn account for the typical holiday rush that will likely be inferior to 2007 levels. In a sign of the times, Blue Nile has for the first time in its public history, declined to offer guidance for the coming quarter. Diane Irvine, CEO, stated that the environment was simply too challenging to give investors a reasonable expectation for sales during the third quarter.

In an interview with Investors Business Daily, Ms. Irvine stated that the primary challenge is a lack of available credit for the company customers. The bulk of NILE sales comes through credit card purchases. That is certainly a difficult obstacle considering the fact that most card issuers are pulling back limits on outstanding cards and declining to issue new cards to potential buyers. Blue Nile actually offers third party financing on its website, but has seen approval rates drop due to tighter credit standards.

The typical NILE customer is a 25 to 35 year old male purchasing an engagement ring. Unfortunately, this is one of the hardest hit demographic categories. At this time the typical buyer is opting for a smaller diamond, a less sophisticated band, and in general, a lower priced item. Bullish investors have long argued that the jewelry business caters to the wealthy and affluent, and should be relatively immune to an economic downtrend. But since NILE focuses on the lower end engagement type jewelry, the company customers are actually very sensitive to economic cycles.

As I write, the stock is trading in the low 20 with 2009 earnings expected at $0.90 per share. Now, I understand that these expectations could change significantly over the next year, but a multiple above 20 seems unrealistically optimistic in my opinion. The company should survive as an ongoing business due to its low cost structure and sound financial footing. However, earnings will not likely rebound sharply as consumers will continue to be careful with spending even once the economic cycle begins to turn.

Some may expect inflation to help the jewelry business out as inventories will likely rise as the purchasing power of the dollar declines. However, RBC had an excellent research report which, among other issues, pointed out that inflation would actually disadvantage NILE. The reason is that the company holds a relatively low level of inventory so inflation would increase costs just about as fast as it increases sales prices. Margins would likely remain stable, thus offering little help to a troubled retailer.

Despite the lower stock price, I would continue to urge caution and steer investment capital away from this name. There may be a period where the value in NILE shares becomes compelling. But at well over 20 times expected earnings, I believe the risk far outweighs the potential gain.

Mesosilver is one form of colloidal silver, which consists of tiny silver particles in liquid. The silver in colloidal silver is the same mineral that is used in jewelry, dental fillings and silverware. Mesosilver has smaller silver particles than other forms of colloidal silver, and hawkers of the product, sold as a dietary supplement, make bold claims for it. Because Luxury Is Back TIF

Because Luxury Is Back TIF

Given the economic climate of the last several years, investors have been reluctant to invest in any company that produces luxury items. However, high end customers have resumed spending at a quicker rate than the average consumer. With that in mind, it may be time to consider the best in breed luxury retailer, and I believe that to be Tiffany Co. TIF.

The Tiffany Co. brands include jewelry, watches, sterling silver items, china, crystal, stationary, fragrances, and leather accessories. However, jewelry is by far the largest revenue stream for the company, accounting for 91% of the companys sales in FY 2012. The company operates all over the world, with 50% of sales from America, and the bulk of the rest coming from Asia, particularly Japan. As of the end of FY 2012, the company had 247 stores in 22 countries, in addition to a web presence in 13 countries.

Now, with regard to the effects of the economic environment on the market for luxury goods, the recession was devastating at first. In fact, according to Bain Company, in 2009, luxury sales declined 8% worldwide, the worst year on record. Jewelry sales were particularly hard hit, falling 17% that same year. However, just the next year, in 2010, optimism amongst wealthy consumers rebounded quicker than the overall economy, and sales of luxury items rose 13% in 2010, with jewelry sales rising an even more impressive 23%. Bain also estimates that worldwide luxury demand increased 10% in 2011, with projections of a further 7% gain for 2012.

With regard to Tiffany, the recovery is apparent in its same store sales data, reporting 11% growth in 2011 and 13% in 2012, both more than the increases in demand each year. Beyond this year, growth is expected to be fueled by TIFs entry into new markets. In FY 2013, the company will open a store in Prague, its first venture into Eastern Europe. The company has also expressed interest in opening in other emerging markets such as Russia and India.

As of this writing, TIF trades at $57.81, which is 17.9 times TTM earnings. For FY 2013, which ends on January 31st, the company is expected to report earnings of $3.35 per share. For FY 2014 which is most of the upcoming calendar year, analysts consensus is for earnings of $4.05 on 7% total sales growth and slightly higher EBIT margins 20.2% vs. 18.5%.

Tiffany does pay a dividend of $1.28 annually, which is above average for its sector. This translates to a 2.2% yield, and the company has an excellent history of raising its dividend. As the chart below illustrates, TIF has raised is dividend each and every year for the past decade, increasing it from 16 cents per share in 2003, all the way to the current level. With the continued opening of new stores and increased sales projected for the next few years, it is a good assumption that this trend will continue going forward.

So, where could this stock go in a year? As stated before, TIF currently trades at 17.9 times earnings, which is actually less than its 10 year historical average P/E multiple of 19.4. Using the consensus FY 14 earnings, this gives us price target of $78.57. However, Im going to be a little more conservative and base my goal on the current multiple. If the P/E stays at the current discounted level, next years earnings should produce a share price of around $72.50, and a nice dividend increase to go along with it.

Source: Tiffany Co: Because Luxury Is Back

Disclosure: I have no positions in any stocks mentioned, and no plans to initiate any positions within the next 72 hours. I wrote this article myself, and it expresses my own opinions. I am not receiving compensation for it other than from Seeking Alpha. I have no business relationship with any company whose stock is mentioned in this article. More.

A Beginner Guide to Selling Jewelry Online

A Beginner Guide to Selling Jewelry Online

Do you make jewelry and want to know the best ways to sell your pieces online? This article will explain all of your jewelry selling options so that you can make the right decision. There are many ways to sell your homemade jewelry online and they are all great options for certain sellers.

In this article, we will explore the jewelry sections of eBay, Etsy, and WePay as well as illustrate the pros and cons of purchasing your own domain to sell your jewelry. Before webegin, you will want to determine two things: the name of your jewelry store and a description or theme that

sets you apart from all of the competition. Once you have these things written down, you will be able to choose which platform has the best market for your products.

This guide will not only tell you the different ways to sell your jewelry online, but also show you how to market the jewelry depending on what kind you are selling. For example, if your jewelry is more bohemian, you will want to use Etsy as that style is very popular to Etsy users. If you are marketing more toward older women or have very low prices, you may want to go with eBay.

You will see that the more work you put in, the more profit you get to keep and the less sellers fees you need to pay per item. So, if you have a lot of time to work on your store, I suggest using the cheapest option and increasing your profit margins.

Scroll down for more details on how to sell jewelry online and where to do it.

The cheapest way to sell your jewelry online is by purchasing your own domain name and create your own website to sell your jewelry on it. There are many options to you if you choose to create your own website, however, you may need to do a lot more work than you would if you used one of the platforms that are already in place like eBay or Etsy.

How to Create your Own Website

There are many ways you can go about creating your own website. If you are an experienced web designer, this will be a piece of cake for you. For those of you who do not know much about web design, you can use a domain hosting company like HomeStead, Wix, or Google Sites to help you create a nice looking site at a low price.

SEO and Marketing Your Own Site

If you are attempting to make your own website, you will need to learn or practice SEO techniques and possibly spend money on advertising in order to get your name out there. Think back to when I asked you to write down a unique description of your store. Ask yourself: What sets you apart? Who is my market? How can I reach them?

Why are you thinking of selling your jewelry online? To get rid of some old pieces To make some extra money Because I love to make jewelry All of the above None of these aboveSee results without voting

Selling jewelry on a site that already exists as an online shopping center can be beneficial to you because there is an established market and plenty of visitors looking for items to purchase. The downsides to using a platform like this are that you have to give a percentage of your earnings to the hosting site. On some of these sites, you must pay a subscription fee as well as a sellers fee for each purchase and a PayPal processing fee.

In some cases, these charges are well worth it. If you are selling large quantities,

Selling on eBayeBay is a great site to use when you want to sell a lot of items quickly. However, eBay has high sellers fees that decrease your income. The rates are as follows:$15.95 to $299.95 per Month

Insertion Fee per Item

3 to 20

Final Item Fees

8% to 15% of item fee

PayPal Processing Fee

2.9% of transaction totalTotal Fees for Cheapest Store

$16.28 per Month

10.9% per Item

If you sell on eBay without a store, you will have a limit to how much you can sell in the month. For a handmade jewelry store, you will want to sell numerous items and the net profit may not be worth it unless you have hundreds of items.

Selling on EtsySelling on Etsy is fast, easy and fun. Etsy is known for artsy, youthful and handmade items that are a little below retail price. Etsy not only has plenty of sellers, but also customers that they gain from advertising on Facebook and all over the web.

Basic Jewelry Making Tools for Beginners

5 Basic Jewelry Making Tools for Beginners

One of the overwhelming parts of getting into a new crafty or hobby is knowing which tools to buy first. Buying the wrong tools can not only cost money but valuable learning time.

These five tools are useful no matter if you are stringing or doing bead weaving or wire work. Youll eventually need them all.

While it is more fun to visit the craft store to pick supplies out in person you can also visit a number of online retailers to purchase good beginner crafting tools. All of the tools photographed in this article are from the Consumer Crafts Jewelry Tools section of their website.

Round nose pliers, as you can see, are rounded and perfect for making simple loops and other rounded wire elements.

The jaws of round nose pliers taper towards the point which allows you to position your wire along the jaw to get the size of loop that you want. For a large loop place your wire near the handles and for a smaller loop place your wire towards the tip of the pliers.

The key to making consistent sized loops it is to mark the pliers with a permanent marker so that you always place your wire in the same place. When you are finished with the project simply wipe the marker away with a bit of alcohol.

Lucky Clover Wire CharmChain nose pliers are similar to round nose pliers except that the inside of the jaws are flat. They are better for gripping wire with their flat surface. I recommend chain nose pliers that are smooth on the inside so that they don mark your wire like the chain nose pliers with ridges do.

Chain nose pliers are used for opening and closing jump rings or for gripping wire. Like round nose pliers, they taper towards the tip, which makes them useful for getting into small spaces.

Chain, Wire, and Crystal Teardrop EarringsFlat Nose Pliers are similar to chain nose pliers but the jaws do not taper towards the tip. This wider surface makes it easier to grip jewelry wire.

Flat nose pliers may not be as essential to a basic jewelry making toolbox as chain nose pliers but you WILL need a second pair of flat nose type pliers for holding wire while you shape it. You either need two pair of chain nose pliers OR a pair of chain nose pliers AND a pair of flat nose pliers.

Neat O Wire Wrapped Briolette Pendant

Also called Crimpers and Crimping Pliers this tool is used used with crimp beads or crimp tubes to secure a clasp on the end of beading wire or to keep beads in position on projects where the wire shows between beaded segments ie an necklace.

The crimp tool has two notches in the jaws. Use the first notch nearest the handles to slightly flatten and round your crimp bead onto the wire. This turns it into a shape ideally with one piece of wire in each side of the Then use the notch near the end of the pliers to shape this shaped bead into a round.

You may have seen some jewelry makers use flat nose or chain nose pliers to smash the crimp bead or tube flat onto the jewelry wire. This is not a process I teach or recommend and I kind of a stickler about it. Smashing the metal creates a sharp edge that is 1 NOT pretty and 2 NOT comfortable on your delicate skin.

ExtrasIf you have it in your budget when you are setting up your basic jewelry making tools, and you plan on stringing beads, I would strongly suggest a few Bead Stoppers. They are the simplest little gadgets but can save you TONS of time. All you do is squeeze the little loops on either end, spreading the springs apart, then insert your bead wire and release the loops. The bead stop stays on the wire keeping your beads in place.
